What to do in the Boro!

This TOW is for the PRCA 3330 class.

What are your favorite things to do in the ‘Boro? If someone who had never been to Statesboro were to come to town, where would you take them? Why?

I really love doing activities on campus such as going to Baseball games or events put on by Eagle Entertainment. We are a very small college town so there are a few restaurants and bars , and lunges to attend. In the hot summer months we have splash the boro which is a good time to attend a water park that is very inexpensive.

Social Media

With the skill set you have, or will have by the time you graduate,  you understand the importance (hopefully) of social media. How would you sell new technology (Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Flickr, etc.) to a client or to your employer? What are the advantages of using social media in a campaign?

I think the benefits of social media are very important because of how fast technology is growing. It is key to interact to with consumers and learn what makes them happy and where your company can improve. I would provide them with surveys and charts to show how important social media affects. I follow many companies on my twitter account and I feel really appreciated when I get an at reply with feedback. I think each major company should devote a department to social media to respond and monitor what is going on.

Back to the Good Days!

Freshman year had to be the best year of my college so far! I was fortunate to come the summer right after I graduated and took 3 classes over the summer. I was able to meet a lot of new friends and learned how to be independent. The hardest part of college was coming back to school for my first fall semester. The work load was so much to handle and I really struggled with time management. Many freshmen thought you could have fun every night and pass. After 2 weeks of school I realized I had to do everything in moderation. My planner really became my best friend; I took it everywhere and constantly put sticky notes to help me remember important dates. Now I am currently a junior and I am very involved on campus.  I wish I would have gotten more involved on campus with admissions doing soar or southern ambassadors. I really love meeting new people and giving my insight on the college experience here at Georgia Southern University.

Is Social Media Good or Bad????

In your opinion, what are the advantages and disadvantages of social media?

This topic has been up for discussion with many of my friends lately! I recently watched a YouTube video about Kony 2012, made by an organization called invisible children. This organization goal is to try to stop the injustice in Uganda that has been going on for over 20 years. This video was released maybe 2 weeks ago and has over 65 million views, which is helping the cause of stopping the leader Joeph Kony. Now people are able to have a voice and help efforts like innocent children suffering in a 3rd world country. Technology is moving really fast, news is constantly being updated 24/7. But a big disadvantage is not being to control how fast and how easy to access personal information. I know if Google an address, it shows the exact house which is scary.

 

                                                                                                                                   

Books that PR professionals should read!

                                                                 

The following article discusses 10 books that PR professionals should read. How many from the list have you read? How many do you want to read? What are other books you would add to this list and how would they be helpful to PR professionals?

Honestly due to being in school, I barely have time to read leisure books. Therefore, I have not read any of the book titles on the list provided. There are about 3 titles that really catch my eye and I feel like I could really learn from. Those books are “Are You There Vodka? It’s me, Chelsea, “The Paris Wife“:”Wife”, and “Me Talk Pretty One Day“. If I could add a book, I have read to a PR professional’s book I would have to suggest Hill Harper’s book “The Wealth Cure: Putting Money in Its Place. This book is a great way for young adults to balance their financial needs and investing it in smart things. When you start saving at a young age you are able to retire at a young age. I am sure everyone I know wants to be able to just retire at 50 and just travel the world.

My Dream Job !

Since I started school I have changed my major once from marketing to public relations because I didn’t know what I really wanted to do. Once I changed my major I decided to look into fashion public relations. After doing some serious research I realized that the fashion industry is a high demand job and I would not be willing to move to New York which is one of the major fashion states in America.

So it finally hit me, a year ago that a career in sports public relations was something that really interested me. I can really see myself at football or basketball games working with promotions and keeping up with the image of the team. Not to mention the perks of working with a professional sport team would be amazing.

Since I’m in school right now it’s very hard to intern in the school year but I am currently looking for a summer internship in Atlanta with the Hawks or the Falcons that would give me the experience to work in this field. I also plan on networking with people in this industry, so I could possible get my foot in the door because it all about who you know. If all fails once I graduate, I plan on working for a while in the marketing field and possible go back to school. I have been looking at getting a masters in business administration or sports management. I feel like another degree will really prepare me more for my dream job.
